Home Front Judging Information

Home Front Judging is a Division of the Coronado Flower Show, which is staged annually by the Coronado Floral Association.

The objective of the
April Home Front Judging is to excite the Coronado community and inspire everyone to spruce up their gardens and beautify the city in preparation for the Coronado Flower Show, held on the third weekend in April. Home Front Judging begins twelve days prior to the Flower Show.

The entire City, including Coronado Village and Coronado Cays, are divided into 39 judging zones. Approximately 85 volunteer judges walk the entire City during the three-day judging period evaluating every home front in our fine town.

The judges award First Place, blue ribbons; Second Place, red ribbons; Third Place, yellow ribbons and Honorable Mention, white ribbons to homes qualifying for the awards. When a judging team feels that a home front in their judging zone qualifies for Best in the City, they record a first place, blue* (asterisk) on their judging worksheet. Awards are given out on the spot, as the judges proceed through the zone.

At the end of the three-day judging period, the Home Front Co-Chairmen hit the streets and evaluate each home on a list of 60 to 80 home fronts that were awarded First Place, blue*. The Co-Chairs reduce this list to include only the top 20 home fronts.

The final selection of the City's finest home front is conducted by the Honorary Judging Panel, consisting of the President, Coronado Floral Association; the Chairperson(s), Coronado Flower Show; the President, Bridge and Bay Garden Club; President, Crown Garden Club and the Co-Chairs, Home Front Judges. After traveling to each of the top 20 home fronts, the Honorary Judging Panel selects Best in the City, First Runner-Up, Legacy Garden Award and Top Ten Home Fronts. This year, for the first time, the Cays will be awarded; Best in the Cays, Cays First Runner-Up and Cays Second Runner-Up.
